United Methodist Women
What is United Methodist Women?
United Methodist Women is the group of women in each congregation organized for mission. Because The United Methodist Church is a connectional church, local and district units of United Methodist Women relate directly to district and conference organizations of United Methodist Women and to the Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries.
Over one million lay women have chosen to be members of this special organization that has been in existence for 137 years through the home and foreign missionary societies and guilds of the seven predecessor denominations that now comprise The United Methodist Church.
Who are the members of United Methodist Women?
Members are women like you: women of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds; employed and unemployed; women with disabilities; housewives and businesswomen; single, married, widowed, and divorced women; teen women, young women, middle-aged women, older women; college/university women; multicultural and multiracial women; and retired women committed to mission.
What does it mean to be a member of United Methodist Women?
A member of United Methodist Women is one who commits herself to our purpose and chooses to participate in meetings, prayer, giving, study, action, and/or service. The organization celebrates an inclusive membership and welcomes all women who want to be members.
